VISTA Update
Good Evening,
We are slowly approaching our last few weeks at both the Elk and Jefferson county jails. It seems like just yesterday we were at meetings just trying to present the program to wardens and getting them to take us seriously. Then we move on to even funnier moments sitting in the living room with my two teammates because at the time I was still a little new and they had different ideas about what they wanted in the curriculum. The last two months of doing this has had a lot of entertaining moments that I will always remember.
There is always a good feeling when you hear of an inmate getting something done that they have always been working towards. Rather it’s getting lighter sentence, probation, or any other alternative besides serving 20+ years in a prison for something that isn’t nearly as big as it seems in my opinion. Right now the VISTA team is working on constructing their resumes to give them even more of a chance to succeed when they are released. Also I am preparing myself for this annual fly fishing tournament I have been hearing a lot about.
