What are your local VISTA’s up to?
We enjoyed our day off for Labor Day this week because your VISTA team is hard at work improving the lives of Elk County residents. We are in meetings, planning sessions, and bent over our desks every day to make our programs a reality.
After the success of the Summer Works Living Greener life skills class, we are turning out attention to the fall class. We are beginning our recruitment for the Fall Living Greener class which starts October 10th.
To support Headwaters Charitable Trust and their programs such as Living Greener, we are volunteering as staff for the Habitat for Headwaters sporting clays challenge. This is an all day event and fundraiser. Our last big event, Hooked on Headwaters fly fishing challenge, it was exhausting but a whole lot of fun! I am looking forward to going out and promoting habitat restoration on Sep 23.
Finally, our last big piece of news. Heather Conrad, working on the Back to our Roots program, has gotten a SNAP/EBT machine for use at the St. Marys farmers market! Because VISTA’s live at the poverty line, we qualify for food stamps just as 38 million Americans do. We are excited to be able to shop at the farmer’s market for fresh, local foods. We will be out there running the machine, so please bring your EBT card out and get some goodies Saturday at the farmers market on S St. Marys st.
Please contact us if you have questions about any of our programs or to purchase tickets to the Habitat for Headwaters event.
