What have the VISTA’s been up to?
Our AmeriCorps VISTA team with Headwaters Charitable Trust have been doing a lot of running around lately. We are currently in the finishing stages of setting up our life skills course. In the last week or so we have met with different stakeholders, wardens, staff from different career links throughout the counties and even some of the inmates discussing our curriculum and it’s purpose with them. The feedback has been very positive, we have all shared a feeling of relief when some of them were thrilled with the idea even telling us how much they wish this was done sooner.
We are hoping that this curriculum course can give them some guidance for when they re-enter society and are able to walk into Career Link with more confidence and ready to rock and roll. This in turn should also make Career Links jobs a little bit easier. Our discussions with them have also been about potentially having professionals from career link and other organizations come in and expand on things like helping them obtain their social security card, birth certificate and preparing their resume. We plan on beginning these classes within the second week of march.
